Downtown Traffic Signal Improvement Project
Project Update (9/17/19): The contractor intends to begin work on the W 2nd St intersection on Thursday, September 19. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution in the area during the project and are asked to follow posted traffic control devices and signs.
The Downtown Traffic Signal Improvement Project started on Wednesday, August 14. During the project, traffic signal and sidewalk improvements will be made along 1st Avenue between W 4th St and E 4th St. Questions on this project should be directed to Jody Rhone, Public Works Director, at 641-791-0827 ext. 2300.
Throughout various stages of the project, sidewalks in the downtown may be closed; the contractor will be responsible for signing alternative routes. There is also the possibility of temporary lane closures, lane reductions, traffic signal disruption, and delays; which the contractor will be responsible for.
Northwest Downtown Parking Lot Reconstruction
TK Concrete will start construction on the northwest parking lot (located at W 3rd St & N 2nd Ave W) in downtown Newton beginning on September 3. The parking lot, adjacent alleys and on-street parking stalls will be closed to allow for reconstruction; the project should last six weeks. Questions on this project can be directed to the Public Works Department at 641-792-6622. Below is a map that shows the parking lot impacted by this project as well as an alternate parking lot (located near the DMACC Campus at W 4th St N and N 2nd Ave W).
