    The City of Newton offices will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27. This includes City Hall, the Newton Police Department business office, Newton Fire Department business office, Community Development, Community Services, Public Works, and the Newton Public Library. The Newton Sanitary Landfill will be closed on Thursday, November 26 They will be open normal hours (7:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.) on Friday, November 28.

  1. United Way of Jasper County's Keep Kids Warm Drive - Collecting Hats & Gloves for Jasper County Kids

    United Way of Jasper County, Carson King Foundation and its partners are collecting hats and gloves for Jasper County children. Drop off sites are: Newton - TruBank, Montana Mike's, Advantage Credit Union, Lynnville & Sully - First State Bank, Colfax - Bank Iowa, Monroe - Leighton State Bank, Prairie City - Goldie's Ice Cream Shoppe. Donate 5 hats or glove pairs (or a combination) and receive a free appetizer from Montana Mike's in Newton.

  2. "The Reindeer are Coming" hosted by Destination Downtown Newton Alliance

    DDNA is hosting a Live Reindeer event, along with the Capitol II Theater who will be providing popcorn and hot chocolate for a free will donation. We will also have multiple photo ops around the downtown area for folks to participate in.

  3. Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce's Reverse Holiday Lighted Parade

    November 27, 2020, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Downtown Newton

    Enjoy lighted displays and floats from the comfort and warmth of your own vehicle! Lighted displays and floats will be parked around the downtown square and spectators are asked to drive through and enjoy. Santa is coming and will be taking letters from the kiddos! Make sure your child gets that holiday wish list written and you can drop it in his box and wave at Santa while driving through! Tune in to 95.9 FM KCOB and enjoy your favorite holiday music! If you are interested in participating in the reverse parade, you may register on the Chamber's website under the "Events" tab! They are currently looking for entries. Get signed up today!

  1. Take & Make Craft for Adults: Book Page Ornament

    Pick up a free craft kit and make your own book page ornament at home! The kit comes with a fill-able ornament, book pages, ribbon, and a bow. Crafters will need to supply their own scissors. Supplies are limited and registration is required to reserve your kit. Registration to reserve a craft kit opens November 16. Kits may be picked up inside of the library during walk-in hours, or via curbside pick-up. Please call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Limit 1 kit per household.
