In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, National Police Week. National Police Week pays special recognition to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. L

Join the Newton Police Department and law enforcement agencies from Jasper County in remembering our local fallen officers on Thursday, May 16 on the Jasper County Courthouse Lawn.
(Memorial will be indoors in the event of inclement weather.)
Peace Officers Memorial Day is a part of Police Week, paying tribute to local, State and Federal law enforcement officers. Peace Officers Memorial Day was created on October 1, 1961. At that time, Congress asked President John F. Kennedy to designate May 15 as a day to honor peace officers. On October 1, 1962, President Kennedy signed the bill into law.

Parents of preschoolers are invited to connect and learn about resources in Jasper County while children attend story time. Children attending will receive the book "A Day with Doc" featuring the popular character, Doc McStuffins. The story time is for children ages 3 to 5, older siblings on Spring Break may also attend. Younger children may stay with the parent in Parent Cafe. No registration required.
