St. Paul, Rochester, Madison, Chicago, and . . . Newton. That is the spring tour itinerary for the Grinnell Singers, the accomplished student vocal ensemble from Grinnell College. Under the direction of John Rommereim, the Blanche Johnson Professor of Music at Grinnell, the Grinnell Singers perform music from a wide variety of traditions and locales — from Brahms to Bluegrass, from Renaissance England to twenty-first century New York. On Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 PM, First Presbyterian Church will host the Grinnell Singers in concert. Marlys Grimm is the accompanist for the group. Joining them on the program will be our own Chancel Choir. The concert will conclude with a joint performance of the exuberant “All of Us,” from the oratorio “Considering Matthew Shepard.”

Join the Jasper County Health Department and the Newton Public Library for a storytime and parent get-together at the library. This event provides an opportunity for parents to connect and learn about community resources while their children enjoy storytime. Children attending the program will receive a copy of the book, "A Color of His Own" by Leo Lionni. this storytime is intended for children ages 3-5; younger children are welcome to stay with their parent. No registration required.

Join our new teen book club! Stop by the library to pick up your copy of the book and register to attend the meeting. We will discuss "Smile" by Raina Telgemeier in March. Light refreshments will be provided. Attendees may bring ideas for other books they would like to read in upcoming months. Grades 6+
