  1. Jasper County Conservation Halloween Hike

    October 18, 2019, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

    This is a fun and educational, not scary, event featuring skits performed by Newton Community Theatre members. Hikers will meet various characters along the trail and listen to some fun and familiar songs! Guided hour long hikes begin at 6:00pm and will depart about every 15 minutes. Each time slot can accommodate around 25 hikers. The last hike will begin at 8:00pm. Families with young children are encouraged to come earlier in the evening. The Izaak Walton League will be serving hotdogs. Participants will also be able to roast marshmallows, take wagon rides around the Ikes property, and decorate a pumpkin gourd. Cost: $3/person, children age 3 and under are free. Youth must be accompanied by an adult.

  1. Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

    October 18, 2019, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM @ Newton Public Library

    Decorate a pumpkin or gourd as your favorite book character! Pumpkins may be painted, dressed, or accessorized, but not carved, and will be accepted for either Family/Classroom (Children receive help from adults) or Independent Child (Child makes pumpkin without adult assistance) categories. The public will vote for winners in all categories from October 23rd to October 30th. Winners will be announced October 31st. Winners will receive a Halloween treat basket.

  2. Winter Clothing Drive at the Library

    October 18, 2019, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM @ Newton Public Library

    The Newton Public Library is collecting NEW cold weather clothing for children ages 6-18! Donated clothing will be given to Newton schools, to be distributed to local students in need. Examples of collected clothing include: New sweaters, sweatshirts, coats, mittens, hats, boots, and socks. Donations will be accepted at the library circulation desk, October 14th through 19th. We appreciate your donation!
