    Looking for a great way to give back to your community? Look no further! The Jasper County Animal Rescue League is looking for more volunteers! What will this entail you may ask? First, we ask that you attend our 1hr volunteer orientation, where you can learn about the ways you can give your time. We have a number of ways for you to stay involved with us! Some of those opportunities include: - Dog walking - Canine Enrichment - Feline socialization and enrichment - Marketing adoptable animals - Fundraising - Event planning - Basic cleaning - Shelter renovation - And more! We are dedicated to helping you find an area where you are comfortable spending your time. If you have a specific area you’re interested in learning more about, we encourage you to talk to staff about opportunities available in that area.

    South Skunk Blues Society and Cellar Peanut Pub Newton are pleased to present another MUST-SEE Blue Monday with the Avey Grouws Duo (Chris Avey & Jeni Grouws). Better believe this duo is pure blue dynamite! "Avey/Grouws Band resides on the Iowa edge of the Driftless and deep in the heart of the Blues" - Tim Eddy Hitting hard with a soul for Blues, Rock & Americana, Avey/Grouws Band takes charge and audiences are taking note! Winners of the 2017 Iowa Blues Challenge. Semifinalists at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. There will also be drawings for free beverage draws during the evening for anyone who is a current member or new member (sign up during the evening) of the South Skunk Blues Society. The membership gathers at 6-7pm prior to the show.

    Join our Youth Services Librarian, Phyllis Peter, on Monday mornings for a special storytime designed for the youngest members of the family! Baby storytime provides a gentle and fun introduction to literacy through songs, stories, and finger plays. For newborns to 18 months with a parent or caregiver (siblings are welcome). Storytime begins at 10:30 am, then stay for play and social time after the program!

  2. CANCELED - Paint Along Class

    This class has been canceled due to instructor illness, and will be rescheduled at a later date. Artist and teacher, Katie Craney leads a step-by-step painting class for adults. Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron, all other materials provided. This program requires a free ticket to attend. You may pick up your ticket at the library circulation desk on January 7, beginning at 5:30 pm. Participants must be present to claim a ticket. Ages 18+
