The Jasper County Crime Stoppers will hold it's quarterly meeting on Wednesday, November 20th, 2019. Why is this important? The Board is seeking new members, especially from communities out in the county, to join Jasper County Crime Stoppers. Interested members are invited to join our Quarterly Meeting and see what Crime Stoppers is about, how to help, and ask any questions they may have. Advertising materials for Crime Stoppers will be available at the meeting.

A group of Newton gals are putting together a Pop Up Store for one night only at the Newton Arboretum. You can come and stroll through a variety of vendors, sip on drinks and enjoy appetizers to kick off your holiday shopping. This is a fun and laid back event hosted by local consultants of national brand names you love and trust. Come support small business and enjoy a night with your friends at the first Sip, Shop & Socialize Pop Up Store!

Start training for one of our favorite traditions - our 8th annual 5k Turkey Trot! A supervised obstacle course and bounce house for kids 2 & over and child watch for children over 6 weeks will be provided while you run! Prizes, snacks, and a T-shirt are all included! Please bring non-perishable foods of our food drive.
Packet pick up will be Friday, November 22 from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. or Saturday, November 23 at 7:30 a.m. with the race starting at 8:30 a.m.
This run is open to anyone and everyone! Runners under the age of 14 must run with an adult over the age of 18. The race will start outside of your Newton YMCA.

The Newton Chamber of Commerce is preparing for our annual Holiday Lighted Festival, and lighted parade, to coincide with the lighting of the Jasper County Courthouse, which will be on November 29th, 2019. The theme this year for the lighted parade is “Christmas Characters” and we are proud to continue the fun tradition of the lighted parade. The parade will start immediately following the courthouse lighting at 6 pm. Following the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be inside the county courthouse to greet visitors! You will also find the annual 4-H Festival of Trees inside the courthouse. We will have FREE horse and carriage rides for the community from 5-8 pm.

Join us for a Parent Cafe co-hosted by the Jasper County Health Department & the Newton Public Library! Parents are invited to stay in the conference room and hear information about resources for parents in Jasper County, while children attend library storytime. Each family will receive a copy of the book, "A Disney Christmas Card". No registration required.

Surviving a Prisoner of War Camp, describing the sounds and smells of Vietnam, feeling the bitter cold of a Korean winter. Journalist and National Guard member, Sara Maniscalco Robinson collected these stories and will share these amazing first hand accounts. You will hear about the day Pearl Harbor was bombed and the morning the Twin Towers were attacked, what it was like to be a woman in the military in WWII and what it feels like to be in and IED explosion driving across Iraq.
Sara is the founder of The Iowa Veteran's Perspective, a non-profit dedicated to interviewing Iowa veterans and documenting their stories for future generations. This event is free to attend and open to the public.

The Iowa Veterans' Perspective Foundation will be interviewing local veterans at the Newton Public Library on November 22nd. Veterans of any age and rank are invited to sign up for a time slot to be interviewed and included in this important project. Interviewees will be given a DVD recording of their interview to keep. Baby storytime provides a gentle and fun introduction to literacy through songs, stories, and finger plays. For newborns to 18 months with a parent or caregiver (siblings are welcome). Storytime begins at 10:30 am, then stay for play and social time after the program!
