Parks Operations Update

Children’s Forest

Parks staff has been busy completing summer construction projects.  Drain repairs and concrete work for new cart paths took place at Westwood Golf Course.  Other storm water drain repairs have occurred on the hike & bike trail through Children’s Forest.

Now that the pool season is over, parks operations staff can begin working on repairs to the pool facility. One of the significant issues, discovered this pool season, is the pool is leaking quite a lot of water. We are working to locate and repair the leaks in the shell of the pool. They are also installing a new main drain that is required by the new State of Iowa Department of Health regulations.

Ash tree removal throughout the city-owned parks and cemeteries continues as time allows, along with the removal of other dead and damaged trees.

Crews continue to maintain and prep the athletic fields for games late into the season. In the fall, NASA utilizes Agnes Patterson Park for weekend soccer games. Both Agnes Patterson Park and the Adult Softball Complex will be used for fall softball tournaments.
