Currently the Newton Fire Department has 13 Part-Time staff and 6 Volunteer/Paid-On-Call staff. Their job description is similar to our career Firefighters/EMT's and they perform many of the same duties.
POC staff participates in on-going training, orientation and critique to ensure proficient response, to use and effective application of apparatus, equipment standard operating procedures and incident command. POC training is held twice a month on Tuesday evenings.

To apply for one of these positions you must…
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a valid Iowa Driver’s License.
- Pass a medical exam with drug screen (at the Department’s expense).
- Pass the Newton Fire Department’s physical ability & written test.
- Pass a personal interview.
Not Just Fire Fighting & EMS
The Newton Fire Department has many opportunities to interact with the community.
Each year we conduct tours, fire extinguisher classes, classes on fire safety and educational classes to several elementary grades and pre-school age children. Many times you will see POC Staff interacting with the community at parades, public events, and our S.A.F.E. House program.

Periodically we hold testing which is comprised of physical agility, written test, and interview. Once your application is received we will keep your name on file and notify you of the next testing date.
