Retro Christmas Business Light Fight – Newton Chamber & Newton Main Street

Begins November 25

Check out the lighted Christmas displays at area Newton businesses taking part in the Newton Chamber and Newton Main Street Retro Christmas Business Light Fight. Displays will go live on November 25 with displays being judged Nov. 27. Winners will be announced on Nov. 29. The list of participating businesses will be on the Chamber website, starting on November 24. 

United Way of Jasper County’s The Big Christmas Raffle

Tickets sales through December 21

The raffle is back and ready for the holidays. Buy a ticket to support United Way and be entered for a chance to win 31 prizes. Tickets are $20 each for entry into the prize drawing to take place December 21. Visit for more information!

Maytag Park Holiday Lights 

Grand Opening – 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, November 27 
Open from dusk until 10 p.m. through January 1, 2022
Maytag Park, 301 South 11th Ave W

Enjoy thousands of twinkle lights and dozens of lighted displays at the Maytag Park Holiday Lights sponsored by Clemon-Maki Insurance. The display is a collaborative effort between the City of Newton’s Parks Division and Friends of Newton Parks to spread some holiday cheer. The park has historic features including the Maytag Bowl and Maytag Pool & Pool House all decorated in lights and displays. During the grand opening children can see Santa and receive a candy cane. Toys will be collected for St. Nick’s Christmas Club and Salvation Army. Admission is free each evening.

Jasper County Museum’s Tree-mendous Christmas Experience

5 - 9 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, Dec. 3 - 26

The Jasper County Museum interior will be decked out for the holidays. Throughout the museum visitors will find wreaths, seasonal decorations and more than 100 Christmas trees. Each tree is uniquely decorated by volunteers who spent hundreds of hours putting together the Tree-mendous display. Also enjoy the holiday lights on the exterior of the museum donated by Van Maanen Electric.  

Newton Community Theatre presents “The Sounds of Christmas 2021”

The Newton Community Theatre Orchestra featuring 23 musicians will be performing a selection of Christmas music along with our talented vocalists. Please join us for a celebration of Christmas. Directors: Pauline Hesson, Suzanne Von Seggern

Masks are suggested. Family/friends may sit together, but we ask that you have two seats between each family or friend groups. Benefactor, patron, season and general admission are available starting Monday, Nov. 29. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth. The box office will be staffed weekdays from Noon - 1 p.m. and 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and one hour before each show. You are welcome to leave a message on the answering machine with your ticket request and the staff will reserve your tickets and call you back with confirmation. 

Santa Stroll & Storytime sponsored by Destination Downtown Newton Alliance

Santa is coming to town and will be strolling Newton on Dec. 4 & 18, visiting shoppers and diners in the downtown district. Santa will host storytimes for children of all ages to enjoy at downtown Newton businesses.

DMACC's 5th Annual Holiday Celebration

The DMACC Newton Campus will be holding it’s 5th Annual Holiday Celebration! Enjoy sitting in your warm car and driving through a celebration journey. We will be handing out special gifts, baked treats, and candy. Rumors are spreading that Santa is going to be making a special trip to see you here at DMACC!

Newton Main Street Winter Wonderland Vendor Market

Newton Main Street is hosting a holiday shopping event that will appeal to everyone. The Winter Wonderland Vendor Market will feature a variety of vendors from homemade items to nationally known products. Shop for everyone on your list and enjoy gift wrapping services too!

Newton Christian School's Creative Christmas Event

10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11

Join in the fun at Newton Christian School’s first Creative Christmas event. Families can come and make a Christmas ornament, decorate sugar cookies, and hear a Christmas story. The cost is $5 per participant, cash only. The event is open to the public.

Free Movie at Capitol II Theatre - “Polar Express”

Get into the spirit of the holidays with a special free showing of the children’s holiday classic “The Polar Express.” Sponsored by Newton YMCA, Lauterbach Buick GMC & Capitol II families can enjoy a free movie along with a visit from Santa Claus. Advanced tickets are recommended but not required. Tickets are available beginning Dec. 6, at Capitol II and Newton YMCA.

Newton High School Choir Winter Concert

7 p.m. Monday, December 13

The Newton High School Choir is ready to serenade you into the holiday season. Students will share their vocal talents during this performance featuring holiday favorites, winter classics and seasonal standards. Public is invited to attend.1 p.m. 

Free Movie! “White Christmas”

Capitol II Theatre

Enjoy one of the holiday season’s timeless treasures on the big screen with a special free showing of “White Christmas.” Step back in time to 1954 and enjoy one of the most beloved holiday films of all times featuring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen and Rosemary Clooney. The movie is sponsored by United Way of Jasper County and Edward Jones. Advanced tickets are recommended but not required. Tickets are available beginning Dec. 10 at Capitol II.

Newton High School Band Winter Concert

Take in the sounds of the season during the Newton High School Choir Winter Concert. Student musicians will be sharing their musical talents during their annual Winter Concert. Public is welcome to attend.
