Curbside Pick Up Service
Starting Monday, May 18th, the Newton Public Library will begin offering curbside pick up service for library cardholders. To request materials, please use our online Curbside Pick Up form. We encourage you to browse the library catalog prior to requesting materials, to ensure your desired items are available.
Once we receive your request, staff will collect your items and contact you to arrange a date and time for you to pick up your library materials. Due to a high volume of requests, we anticipate that most requests will be filled in 1-2 business days.
Pick up hours will be scheduled:
Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Friday: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
You must have an appointment scheduled before you can pick up your materials. We are not able to accommodate walk-up service.
When you arrive to your pick up appointment, please park in the library parking lot. Staff will place your materials on the table by the parking lot entrance. Once the staff member returns to the building, you may exit your vehicle and collect your materials. Please allow the staff member to enter the building before you approach the table.
Notary Service by Appointment
The library is now offering notary service by appointment! Notary service is free for library cardholders, but we do require that an appointment be made in advance. Please contact the library at 641-792-4108 to make your appointment.
Curbside Pick Up FAQs:
Who can use curbside pick up service?
Any Newton Public Library cardholder with a physical library card in good standing may use this service. We cannot accept library cards from other libraries or use digital library cards.
How often can I request materials?
Due to a high volume of requests, we ask that you limit your curbside pick up requests to one visit per week. If you have multiple family members requesting items, please let us know, and we will schedule a single pick up time for all your family’s materials.
Is there a limit on the number of items I can request?
Due to high demand, we do have a limit on the number of items you may request. Every library cardholder may request up to 10 items each week.
What materials are available?
You may request library books, audiobooks, movie DVDs, magazines, and music CDs through curbside pick up. We strongly encourage you to browse the online library catalog prior to making your request, to ensure your desired materials are available.
How do I request a curbside pick up appointment?
To request your materials, we encourage you to fill out our online Curbside Pick Up Form. Using the online form will ensure the quickest service possible. If you cannot use the online form, you may also call the library at 641-792-4108.
What if I miss my pick up appointment?
Curbside pick up appointments are scheduled every 10 minutes, during the designated service hours listed above. To ensure social distancing, only one patron will be scheduled for each appointment slot. If you miss your appointment, please call the library at 641-792-4108 to reschedule. Due to a high volume of curbside requests, we cannot reschedule for the same day, but we will do our best to get you another appointment as soon as possible. Staff are not able to run materials out to your vehicle if you have missed your appointment.
I’m getting a busy signal or voicemail recording when calling
Due to a high volume of requests, the library phone line may be busy. We encourage you to use our online Curbside Pick Up Form for the fastest service, or try calling back at another time. Please do not leave a voicemail, as we may not be able to check voicemails as frequently as we would like. We appreciate your patience!
How will you maintain social distancing?
We take the safety of our community and staff very seriously. Rather than exchanging materials with you directly, library staff will leave your items on the pick up table. Once staff have returned to the building, you may exit your vehicle and pick up your items from the table. While we are handling your materials, staff will also be wearing gloves and cloth masks.
What if I can’t get out of my car?
If you physically cannot get out of your vehicle, please let us know when we call to schedule your pick up appointment.
Can I return materials I have checked out?
While the library is closed, you may return materials in the outside book drop by our parking lot. Staff cannot accept returns at your curbside pick up appointment - all returns must go into the book drop.
What are you doing with returned materials?
After you return items in our outside book drop, we quarantine them for 3 days before cleaning and re-shelving them. This is to help prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus from one borrower to another. This process may mean slightly longer wait times for materials, and we appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to keep you safe.
