Web site policy

The sources listed or linked from the library Web page have been chosen in keeping with the Library's Selection and Collection Development Policy and are deemed generally reliable and useful. However, patrons are advised that the World Wide Web contains information that may be considered by some patrons to be inaccurate, outdated, or personally offensive. Web pages are added or discontinued daily and are subject to frequent and sometimes dramatic change.

One of the major challenges faced by patrons is determining the quality of the information they access on the World Wide Web. Librarians at the Newton Public Library are available to help patrons learn how to better judge the quality of the content of a Web page. Patrons are personally responsible for any actions taken by them due to information gathered on or through the Newton Public Library's Web site.

Parents are reminded that the best Internet filter is a parent who is present and/or monitoring their child's use of the Internet.

Patrons who feel that information they have obtained through the Internet is inaccurate or offensive should contact the original producer or distributor of the offending Web page.

Please notify the library if a Web page link from our site is no longer operational.

*Iowa law makes it illegal to download or purvey child pornography, purvey pornography to children, or to commit fraudulent acts using the Internet.*

The Newton Public Library cannot guarantee confidentiality over the Internet.

The Newton Public Library recognizes that access to the wealth of information and ideas on the World Wide Web is essential to our patrons. Additionally, making Internet services available to patrons, alongside our "traditional" sources, increases our patron's ability to get the most value from their investment in library service.
