Aerators Replaced at Newton Water Treatment Plant

The Up flow Aerators were replaced at the Newton Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Wed. Oct 17.  Weidner Construction of Marshalltown is shown lifting old units out and replacing with new unit. The cost of the project is $178,470.  The units which have been in use since 1968 are a vital part of treating Newton’s water supply.

Aeration reduces CO2, oxidizes Iron and Manganese, and removes Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide.  This is the first step in producing Newton’s excellent drinking water.
