Citizen Police Academy
The Newton Police Department's 2017 Citizens Police Academy is planned for Sept. 19 through Nov. 14.

Citizens Police AcademyThe purpose of the academy is to provide an educational opportunity for citizens to learn first hand about police operations and to gain a deeper understanding of today’s law enforcement functions. Classes are held from 6 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday evening Sept. 19 through Nov. 14.

The nine-week class offers 27 hours of classroom and hands-on training in the following areas: firearms safety and shooting, traffic enforcement, arrest tactics, shoot/don't shoot scenarios, SWAT team/search warrants, hiring process/requirements, emergency driving training, defensive tactics, non-lethal weapon deployment, crime scene investigations, narcotics investigations and OWI enforcement.
