Overview
The Newton Fire Department is broken down into four main areas of service; EMS, Fire, Haz-Mat and Technical Rescue. Below you'll find a brief description of each area in an effort to provide citizens with a better understanding of the services provided to the community.

EMS
AmbulanceThe Newton Fire Department is the sole provider of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) within the City of Newton. The department members are trained to the American Heart Association Health Care Provider level and provide the following services: basic life support, advanced life support, critical care transport and routine & emergency transfers between facilities. Thanks in part to the department's use of a dual-role firefighter system, each crew is staffed with a minimum of 5 Iowa Paramedic Specialists and 5 of our Paramedic Specialists are Critical Care Transport endorsed (CCT). Learn more about EMS services here.

Fire
The department utilizes 4 engine and 1 ladder truck in fire protection efforts. In 2011 the Insurance Services Organization (ISO) conducted a survey of the fire suppression capabilities of the Newton Fire Department. The Department maintained a classification of a 4. This classification is used by insurance companies to set insurance rates for the citizens and businesses of Newton. Learn more about the Fire services here.

Haz-Mat
The department has more than 20 firefighters trained as Hazmat Technicians, in addition to their regular fire and emergency medical responsibilities. Hazmat Technicians are trained in the knowledge, skills and abilities to identify and take action to minimize the consequences of a hazmat release to people, property and our environment. The department works in conjunction with other communities in Jasper County, providing hazmat assistance as needed. Learn more about the Haz-Mat services here.

Technical Rescue
Throughout the year the department continues to make training the highest priority. Each firefighter is expected to complete 20 hours of training each month. The department is trained to handle surface ice rescue, confined space rescue, vehicle extrication rescue, building collapse rescue, rope rescue and trench rescue. Learn more about the Technical Rescue services here.
