Open house from 4-6 p.m. with refreshments at the new Newton Expree Care Clinic at Hy-Vee. At 4:30 p.m. Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a ribbon cutting. For patients who are dealing with very uncomfortable but non-life-threatening problems and illnesses, a Quick Care Clinic could address or ease their discomforts in a timely manner. The clinic fills the gap between a traditional care provider and the emergency department.

Join us for a non-scary, fun family event featuring: Jasper your friendly host and "Natures Glow Show"! Come on out to the Izaak Walton League and enjoy long hikes with educational and musical skits! Marshmallow roasting, glow face paint, black light animal tracking, stargazing campfire music, wagon rides and pumpkin decorating! The fee is $3.00 a person; ages 3 and under are free.

Come out to your Newton Y for this fun and FREE event! There will be trunk or treating, train rides with Frank, balloon artist, free hot dogs and apple cider, face painting, carnival games, spook house, bounce house, superheroes from Iowa League of Heroes, and more! In the pool, we will have a floating pumpkin patch where you can pay $6 per child or $20 per family to come and swim with the pumpkins and pick one out to take it home! Dress up in costumes for this Halloween event!

Join us for a women’s self-defense course with Sgt. Lavely of the Newton Police Department and learn self-defense strategies to protect yourself. This class is for girls and women ages 13+. This class will teach you how to be aware of your surroundings, as well as teach you self-defense moves in case of an attack. This class is free to the community and will be Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. in the Newton Y’s Small Gym. Please make sure to register before at the Y’s Welcome Center.

Decorate a pumpkin as your favorite book character! Pumpkins may be painted, dressed, and accessorized, but not carved. Entries will be accepted October 18-22. The public will vote for their favorite entries to select winners. Voting takes place October 23-30. Entry forms may be picked up at the Children's Desk. Winners will be announced on October 31 and will win a gift basket of children's books, DVDs, and other Halloween treats!
Entries will be accepted for two categories; Individual Child and Family/Group. The family category is for pumpkins done by an entire family, daycare center, or class with an adult helping children.

Join our Youth Services Librarian, Phyllis Peter, on Monday mornings for a special storytime designed for the youngest members of the family! Baby storytime provides a gentle and fun introduction to literacy through songs, stories, and finger plays. For newborns to 18 months with a parent or caregiver (siblings are welcome). Storytime begins at 10:30 am, then stay for play and social time after the program!

Work together to steal Dr. Frankenstein's secret formula for creating life and escape the laboratory before time runs out. This escape room is part scavenger hunt, part puzzle game, and a howling good time! Recommended group size is 4 to 6 players. Ages 16+

All little ghosts and goblins are invited to stop by the library meeting room to trick or treat! The room will be decorated with a Candyland theme, and children will receive candy and a book (new or gently used) to keep! Trick or treating will be open from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. All ages welcome.
